MicroBlogging and Cross-Feeds…

In the last days I have seen a lot of talking, posts and comments on people that are upset and tired of the Twitter Downtime that they feel forced to move to FriendFeed or other platforms like Plurk… I’m sick sometimes that Twitter is down… and makes me sick to see that the service is down… mostly because (like Murphy’s Law says) it’s usually down when I want to share links to my followers… and disturbs me… because seems to me like a wall on my flow of information… information that I wanna acquire and information that I wanna share…
So lot of people started to look at new services that could provide the same service but in a more reliable and easy way, so people started to look at Plurk and FriendFeed… but looking at those data (I don’t rely 100% on Alexa algorithm) I can’t see a lot of changes on the numbers of the last two services (here is the permalink):

From the chart I can see that the Twitter is going down big time in tha last month, that means that is losing a lot of people, but I have to say that the other two services are not gaining users in the same way that Twitter is losing them. They are more or less in the same position, not having big movements…

Before writing I have tried those services to see if what people are doing could be good also for me… and I have to say that I have some doubts for the moment:

  • First Love – Twitter is my first love in microblogging and I love its simplicity, I can broadcast a message without a big effort and without losing time…
  • Friends – In Twitter I managed to create my “Social Network” I follow people and their updates, if I have to change social network I will lose all the relations that I have created… if I can import the friends from twitter to FriendFeed automatically probably that would be a god point for a change.
  • Software – There are software for Mac (I use mac for example) that makes me use Twitter without entering in their web site, makes me share myself easily and rapidly… and this software downloads the updates of the people I follow without making me going searching for them. I’m using Twhirl and I love it but I would appreciate if it would have a Growl integration.
  • Line of Thinking – When I use Twitter all the twitts are listed in chronological order so I easily know what happened and I can understand where I arrived to read in the logical line… In FriendFeed for example I have some problems… because this line doesn’t exist… the last feed is the one that has the most recet comment… so can be seen that there are updates several hours old before something else minutes old. I wanna know what happened recently… that’s the way that I feel the importance of a news… not because someone comented on a feed of Robert Scoble 14 hours later… I know that that thing happened… but if i cared I went to see it… if not I didn’t… and I don’t want something to keep me reminding it… something new happened, something probaly I care more.
  • Followers – Why I see on FriendFeed feeds of people that I decided not to follow? I don’t know them and I don’t want to know about them… maybe in the future… But I wanna feel free to restrict the horizon of the people I follow…

I love of FriendFeed the idea that you can put several feed into one service and save time looking at the people that you follow and at the information that they share… but in the same tie I feel like I can’t lose twitter because is easy and fast… FriendFeed sometimes is a chaos and the “comment” and “Like-it” functions soemtimes can be disturbing… I also tried Plurk and I see it as a teen-ager competitor of Twitter…

Twitter is great for its integration and semplicity but is bad for its reilability… and people are sick of it… hope that Twitter will solve their problems because the service is great… but Friendfeed makes people aggregate more… will see what will happen and if the trend will change completely… I will kee use Twhirl and use both… Twitter to share and FriendFeed to get more content…
