The Apprentice… a Communication Lessons form Omarosa…

I know that looks like a post completely out from the theme of this blog (Communication and Internet), but I’m going to talk an something that inspired me and that made me reflecting a lot… something about leadership and mass-communication…

I can’t hide that I watch the Apprentice, I really like the show, is entertaining, smart and gives important lesson on how and on how not make business. I find it really interesting but I have to say that I learn more from the errors of the people than from the things that they did right. Also I keep understanding what is really the meaning of leadership… and yesterday my ideas of true leadership were enforced looking Omarosa (yeah… redirects to a MySpace page)…

Before being confused I think that Omarosa is an intelligent, smart, driven person and she knows how to do business but in my opinion is NOT a Leader. In my opinion the best definition of leader that I have found is “He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us” (comes from the TV show Lost) and looking at her yesterday she demonstrated the opposite. Looking at the show during the episode she wanted to show “self control” and “power” to the others trying to make them feel bad. Impressive was what she told to Stephen Baldwin in the beginning, something like “Unfortunately I know him” then looking during the team work, she was constantly trying to be over people and to show superiority. Being a Leader is not showing superiority, because good people would be scared of you and wouldn’t try anything for the fear to get covered by insults, and other leaders would be pissed of you and wouldn’t give you the respect needed to bring to success the project… competitors also has to be treated with respect because they are the challengers and they are going to say who you are… a loser or a winner…

Respect, honesty and professionalism are the three quality for a good business man and also leader…

Anyway I have found some information about Omarosa, the most relevant is that she as a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and a M.A. in Mass Communication… and she should know what means reputation on TV, and how is important to have a good reputation on the media, and I have to say that form what I have saw yesterday I hope not to make business with her. When you deal with a person you have to respect him/her because you never know who you have in front of you, in her case she has celebrities, people that has lot of experience… experience that she hasn’t…

She should know how to communicate to people, but as shown she doesn’t… instead to deal with people she attacks them to try to make them weaker, is a good war tactic, but works only if you have weak people in front of you… and I have to say that people like Gene Simmons, Stephen Baldwin, Nely Galan, Piers Morgan and Carol Alt are not really weak (just to say a couple of names)… maybe she has to change her tactic and approach with the people around her. In the first edition she had to deal with people like her that really needed the job, to have a possibility to make it, to succeed… people new in that type of environment… now she has to deal with people that they doesn’t need money, a job or to achieve something… they have achieved what they wanted in their life, they are there because they are the best in what they did in their life… and they don’t need the Apprentice in the same way that Omarosa needs it.

Communication is important, but more important is how you show yourself to the people… and mass media don’t declare your destiny, is only a mean that you have to show others who you are… and to give them the possibility to create an opinion of you… that is the same if we talk about internet… we share the information that we wanna
show to others, that the information enters in the system and spreads… basically “We are what we share with others“…

i know that with this comment i m going out from the subject of this post, but let me add a goethe sentence that comes to my mind as sonn as i read your quotes. The translation could be “Nothing defines better a man than what he judges ridiculous!”. That s so true! isnt it?
